The study of the chemical basis of natural processes is a fascinating adventure that we are happy to share with our students and collaborators. The Department of Chemistry of Natural Compounds is part of the Faculty of Food and Biochemical Technology at the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague and focuses on research and education in bioorganic chemistry, natural compounds chemistry, and medicinal chemistry.
At the department, we teach at all levels of university study and offer students the opportunity to become involved in modern chemical research already during their studies. We cover a broad range of topics related to natural compounds – from their isolation and synthesis to the study of their structure, reactivity, and biological activity.
Students actively participate in scientific projects and often become co-authors of scientific publications or patent applications. We support their participation in professional conferences and international internships, which enable them to gain valuable experience in an international scientific environment.
One of the characteristic features of our department is an individual approach to students. We consider students to be important members of the research team and encourage their independence and professional development. They may also engage in research as student assistants and present their results, for example, at the Student Scientific Conference.
The department also welcomes international students and supports academic mobility. Our graduates pursue successful careers in research, academia, and industry, and hold prestigious positions both in the Czech Republic and abroad.
